Fit would be full width and height of the pocket as the contact points occur at either ends, top and bottom. I'd propose that the full panel could be folded accordion style to carry in the trunk. I'd think this material would be available in different gauges, and you'd have to source large single pieces. This panel might also help spread point pressure over a larger surface area as well. Not all tops wear the same, either due to "top down time", assembly quirks, or whatever.įix Ideas: Provide a buffer of some kind between the folded panels to create a slip plane.perhaps a thin layer of somewhat stiff plastic with very smooth surfaces (think of the loose leaf binder covers you bought for your kids in school). Frame position (bows, etc.) may aggravate the condition. ![]() Wear Cause: When the top stacks the built-up outer seams contact areas of the fabric they lay on, and through vibration, the fabric threads "saw" at one another causing fraying at the least, and full cut-through at the worst. Feel free to correct me where your think I might be off base. Here are my thoughts, and I'd like to get input. There have been several preventive suggestions posted (a blanket barrier, hockey tape at wear points, multiple coatings of 303, etc.), and I'd like to open the floor to your ideas. ![]() ![]() Now past 36K I, like many others, am on my own to get as much duty out of the my last free top as possible. Where We Stand: I've just gotten my second top replacement (first one frame/fabric due to a broken strap and the last one fabric only due to abrasion wear).
